[ Rain Murphy and Will Oldham ]

    All Most Heaven (Drag City)

With the help of a host of friends and batch of catchy songs Rain Murphy and Will Oldham fill most of All Most Heaven with poppy, piano ditties("Fall Again") orchestrated Appalachian folk("Fall and Rise it On", "Song of Most"). But truth be told what Murphy and Oldham do on All Most heaven is both those things and neither of them. Oldham singing is a lot more lively then much of his past work. And the incorporation of string, horn and vocal arrangements(though alarming at first) help to distinguishes the record from the Murphy and Oldham's other projects. All Most Heaven tends to come off as part good time music, part lethargic musing and cool reason to get some friends together to play.
