Tomorrow Waits (Two Sheds)
silent kids are a quartet of atlantans that are self described as "easily
mistaken for an Elephant Six outfit were it not for its use of soaring
guitars" And the some. The guitar sound these folks use is enveloping
rather than overwhelming, making them a friendly monster of rock. These
thick fuzzy colors, reminiscent of Billy Corgan at his best, combine with
melodies and arrangements more akin to solo John Lennon and George Harrison
than anything the Beatles ever dished out. Lest we be left in a total time
warp, clever drum loops and keyboard tasties pepper the record with enough
texture to keep the whole thing from feeling washed out or dated. The
result presents the listener with a sound that has the overall feel of
watching Scooby Doo re-runs in a huge overstuffed easy chair that's been
upholstered with deep shag carpeting. It's not always comfortable but
certainly a fun and unique experience.
Tomorrow Waits is able to present a full record of this sound without ever
becoming tiresome. Its 11 songs are well ordered and varied with little
filler. Standout tracks include "drift into summer" "lost in a petrified
forest" "miami" and "tomorrow waits", but each track offers many endearing
qualities.
Silent kids just finished an East Coast Tour and are writing material for a
new release.
